Dal Tadka

Dal Tadka is a popular Indian dish made from lentils and tempered with spices. It is a staple in Indian households and is enjoyed for its rich and comforting flavours. This is the recipe for my favourite Dal Tadka.

You will need:

1 cup red lentils
1 tomato
1/2 tsp salt
3 cups water
1 tsp cumin seeds
1/4 tsp black pepper
2 tsp olive oil
1 cup onion
1 tsp ginger powder
3 cloves garlic
1/2 red chilli
1 tsp garam masala
3 curry leaves

Procedure:

Start by washing 1 cup of red lentils and then boiling them in 3 cups of water with a chopped tomato and salt. In a separate pan, heat oil and add cumin seeds, and black pepper, and sauté until fragrant. Then add finely chopped onions, ginger powder, garlic, and red chilli, and cook until the onions are translucent. Once the lentils are cooked, add the onion mixture to the dal along with garam masala, curry leaves, and crushed cumin and black pepper. Let it simmer for a few minutes to allow the flavours to meld together. Serve the Dal Tadka hot with rice or roti for a comforting and satisfying meal.

Red lentils help to regulate water and tonify qi. Tropism – kidney, heart, stomach, spleen. Effects: clears damp, resolves water accumulations
